Conditions that apply

  • A passport valid for at least six months from the date you arrive.
  • A confirmed return or onward ticket.
  • Visa-free stays cannot normally be extended (UK and Canadian passport holders can apply to extend).

Online arrival card

Foreign visitors fill in an arrival card. Doing it online before you land, on the National Immigration Agency site, saves time at the counter.

Need a visa?

If your passport is not on the visa-exempt list, apply through a Taiwan mission abroad, or see whether an eVisa or the travel authorization certificate (for some Southeast and South Asian passports) applies. Start at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Questions travelers ask

Do US citizens need a visa for Taiwan?

No, for tourism stays of up to 90 days, with a passport valid for six months and an onward ticket.

Do I need a visa to transit at Taoyuan Airport?

Not if you stay airside and connect on the same ticket. Leaving the airport, for example on a transit tour, means passing immigration, so you must be eligible to enter Taiwan.
