How far is Taoyuan Airport from Taipei?
About 40 km west of central Taipei. The Airport MRT express takes about 35 to 39 minutes to Taipei Main Station.
What is the cheapest way from TPE to Taipei?
The airport buses are cheapest, at around NT$130 to 160, but the Airport MRT at about NT$160 is faster and more predictable.
Is Terminal 3 open?
Only its North Concourse (gates D11 to D18), used through Terminal 2 since December 2025. The main Terminal 3 building is still being built.
How do I switch between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2?
Landside, take the Airport MRT between A12 and A13 (free when you tap a card) or the 24-hour shuttle bus. The landside Skytrain stopped on July 1, 2026.
How early should I get to TPE?
Two to three hours before departure, more at peak times. In-town check-in at Taipei Main Station closes 3 hours before your flight.
Is there free Wi-Fi at Taoyuan Airport?
Yes, in both terminals, and Airport MRT trains have free 4G Wi-Fi.
Can I leave the airport on a layover?
Yes, if you can enter Taiwan with a visa or a visa-exempt passport. The free transit tours suit layovers of 7 to 24 hours.
Where do I buy a SIM card at TPE?
At the Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and FarEasTone counters in the arrival halls. Bring your passport and a second photo ID.
